SFV OG (San Fernando Valley OG) is one of the most influential OG Kush cuts to ever come out of California. Known for its sharp lemon-pine gas, earthy base, and classic OG effects, SFV OG has shaped countless hybrids and remains a foundational cultivar in modern cannabis breeding.
At Blackwater Gardens, we’re currently growing a unique Hoku Seed Co cross called Mystic Valley OG, which features SFV OG as one of the core parents. Understanding SFV's legacy helps us better appreciate what this hybrid brings to the flower table.
Where SFV OG Comes From
SFV OG originated in the San Fernando Valley region of Southern California. While the exact lineage is debated, it’s generally considered a cut or phenotype of OG Kush — one of the most dominant cannabis lines of the last two decades.
Selected and passed around by breeders like Cali Connection, SFV OG quickly gained traction for its:
Bright lemon-fuel aroma
Dense, trichome-rich buds
Powerful head-to-toe effects
Dependable stretch and stacking traits
It became a go-to building block for many California hybrid programs and still holds weight in pheno hunts and breeding projects today.
Aroma & Effects
SFV OG is known for a sharper, more citrus-forward nose than some other OG cuts. It usually hits on:
Lemon peel and pine
Skunky fuel
Earthy kush base with a sour bite
In terms of effects, SFV OG has a balanced but potent profile — often described as mentally stimulating with a heavy body high, making it suitable for both medical and recreational use.
SFV OG in Mystic Valley OG (by Hoku Seed Co)
We’re currently running Mystic Valley OG, a hybrid from Hoku Seed Co that crosses:
SFV OG × Fyre OG
This combination brings the old-school lemon fuel power of SFV OG into a new context, paired with Fyre OG’s unique funk and structure. In flower, we’re seeing phenos that carry through the fuel, stack well outdoors, and bring forward the classic OG high with a slightly more modern frame.
By anchoring Mystic Valley OG in real SFV genetics, Hoku created something that stays true to the California OG experience — but with a fresh twist, suited for today’s resin-forward growers.
Why We Work With SFV-Based Genetics
At Blackwater Gardens, we choose genetics that have both history and function. SFV OG represents a true-bred expression of OG Kush that has stood the test of time. In crosses like Mystic Valley OG, it brings that old-world punch and market-friendly nose we value in flower production.
If you’re a fan of fuel, citrus, and true OG structure, anything built with SFV OG deserves a look — and Mystic Valley OG is a strong place to start.
